In the first phase of the project, the results of a baseline research willbe used as the basis for a gathering of environmental youth leaders Capacity Building Retreat " (CBR) to be held in the Spring 2002 in Montreal. The CBR will be the starting point for specific initiatives that will engage the broader youth community during the second phase II of the project.
A planning committee of seven youth, supported by the Canadian Environmental Network (CEN), has secured funding for the project through Environment Canada and the federal Volunteer Sector Initiative.
JOB DESCRIPTION
The role of the YOUTH ENVIRONMENTAL PROJECT COORDINATOR will be to gear the different activities of the project during the first phase. The job description for this position will mostly (but not exclusively) include:
research and outreach to experts, mentors and speakers for the CBR; coordinate conference calls, meetings and email exchanges prior to the retreat; develop a plan to ensure the retreat is environmentally friendly and the agenda and design will provide the results required by the funder; make logistic arrangements for the retreat and during the retreat; produce and collaborate in the production of materials that will promote the retreat and outreach to participants and youth in general before, during and in follow-up of the retreat; outreach, hire and coordinate staffing or volunteers for evaluation framework, conference design, facilitation, note taking, information systems and document layout; support baseline information research and evaluation framework planning; administer budget in collaboration with the Planning Committee and the CEN; produce reports and follow-up on priority items from the retreat;
WORK EXPERIENCE
Work experience in youth environmental NGO's
Experience organizing and coordinating conference or retreat
Experience with fundraising, communication, policy and organizational
structure
REQUISITES
Bilingual
Knowledge of Word, Excel, internet browsing and email
The coordinator should leave in Montreal or Ottawa; or be willing to move in Ottawa
Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
Self-motivated, Independent worker
Ability to manage multiple tasks
CONTRACT DETAILS
- Work location: Montreal (at home with personal office equipment) or Ottawa (at CEN Ottawa's office )
- 10 days of paid vacation
- Directed by the CBR Planning Committee and under the supervision of Chantal Bois, CEN National Caucus Coordinator
- Possibility of contract extension
- Contract starts: September 24, 2001 and end March 31st, 2002 (27 weeks)
- Workload :
o Minimum 28 hours/week to 35 hours/week until Christmas.
o Minimum 35 hours/week until March 31, 2002.
- Salary :
o 448 $ / week until Christmas. Possible salary increase depending on workload.
o 560 $ / week until March 31, 2002.
